And the Oh Wows win....

And the Oh Wows win. I saw my doctor today and told him my concern about my HUGE belly. He measured my belly and I'm measuring for 29 weeks but am only 24wks. He quickly rushed me to the Ultrasound specialist who started our New Years Eve scare. She measured my fluid. I'm measuring at 24 and should be at 16. Soooo what does this mean?

Well, even though the lab drew my blood at 40 min instead of 1 hour, I tested negative for gestational diabetes. My doctor said the early draw would have if anything given me more probability for a positive result. Iwill retest at 28 weeks but for now this means my large belly is not due to gestational diabetes.

The only other explanation I could really get from the doctors I saw today is that sometimes it just happens. The bad news is my OB-GYN now wants to see me every two weeks and that may quickly turn to every week. He also mentioned the possible need for bed rest (no work) and then listed off all these complications I could have with delivery.

Oh well, it was nice to have the past couple weeks off of tests but sounds like now Baby Kato will go back to getting lots of attention.

  1. Extra attention is a good thing. Better safe than sorry, right?

  2. Yeah don't worry....I know three people who have had "extra" fluid and I still say my belly was just as big as yours at that stage (there are pictures to prove it!) One baby was born with fluid in their lungs and needed antibiotics for a week in the hospital, and two babies were born a month early. All three were healthy as can be! Just means Eric should probably stop traveling sooner as opposed to later. :)
